kate Winslet Interview: This is my identity
While promoting her new HBO series, The Regime, she said to Kotb, 59, on Monday, February 26, “You know, it’s fascinating how much the industry has changed.” And I reflect on the times when I had to accept who I am—that is, that I am going to be myself and have curves.
As a rising star in her early career, the Titanic actress recalled how the industry worked, saying that “a lot of fat-shaming would go on back in the day.”
She remarked, “That has changed,” and that more courage is “born with” younger generations of women. “They can be heard.” They’re becoming better at holding onto it. They advocate for themselves. They are aware of their importance. They have some value, she clarified. “They work well together. For younger actors entering this enormously successful industry, it’s an amazing time to be coming in and feeling encouraged, fostered, and held in some way. It’s drastically altered. It’s amazing.
Winslet continued by talking about how she portrayed herself in a 2022 L’Oréal Paris ad encouraging women “to believe in themselves from the inside out.”
Kate Winslet Interview: She went on, “It’s not about the beauty and makeup and how long it takes to put things on.” It’s about discovering your inner self and learning to accept and be at peace with it. In my opinion, representation and acceptance of women nowadays are crucial. I needed to devise something that felt novel, revitalizing, and authentic.
After the Titanic disaster, Winslet shot to popularity at the age of 22, but she recently acknowledged adjusting to her sudden prominence wasn’t easy.
In an interview that was released earlier this month, she said of Porter, “I felt like I had to look a certain way, or be a certain thing.” “And my life was quite unpleasant because at that time, media intrusion was so significant.”
“After the Titanic, you could have done anything, but you chose to do these small things,” journalists would frequently remark, she said. and I said, “Yeah, you better believe your f—kin’ life!” Because, you guessed it, fame wasn’t good. Of course, I was appreciative. I managed to get an apartment while I was in my early twenties. However, I didn’t want to be practically fed ducks by people who followed me.
Winslet jokes that Titanic “continues to bring people huge amounts of joy” despite the craze that accompanied the movie’s popularity. “The only time I am like, ‘Oh god, hide,’ is if we are on a boat somewhere,” she explains.
